Trust Me: These 11 Perfumes Will Make You Feel as If You're Dripping in Gold
One beauty editor shares her ultimate edit of the best luxury scents.

When it comes to the best perfumes on the market, sometimes you just can't beat a luxury scent. While I'm not one for designer makeup or expensive skincare routines, I have a certain weakness for luxury fragrances, meaning my perfume collection is one of my most prized possessions.
The thing is, to me, these aren't just perfumes. In my opinion, a truly luxurious fragrance has the power to transcend into all aspects of my life. An expensive-smelling scent can alter my mood, elevate my morning routine or add that fancy finishing touch to an otherwise lackluster outfit. A luxury scent is my way of tapping into a world of glitz and glamour, transporting me from Hammersmith to Hollywood in one simple spritz.

That being said, the fragrance landscape is changing. In the past, when writing about luxury perfumes, it was all about those legacy fashion-house fragrances from the likes of Chanel or Dior. However, these days we are also met with niche perfume brands creating high-quality blends at luxurious price points. A wander round Harrods or Liberty's fragrance lounge and suddenly my wishlist is longer than ever, filled with elevated extraits, grown-up gourmands and intense iterations of old-school scents. It seems like we are prepared to spend more than ever on a powerhouse perfume, with searches on how to smell expensive rapidly on the rise. Really, then, there's no better time for me to write about the best luxury perfumes.
Below, you'll find the ultimate edit of luxurious scents, from heritage brands to more contemporary creations. Each of these fragrances will make you feel as if you're dripping in gold, because let's face it, this season a designer scent really is the best accessory...
11 Best Luxury Perfumes 2025
1. Chanel Comète Les Exclusifs de Chanel

Key notes: Cherry blossom, heliotrope, iris
Let's face it, all of Chanel's bestselling scents scream luxury, but if you really want to elevate your perfume wardrobe, I suggest looking to the brand's Les Exclusifs de Chanel collection, an exclusive range of scents inspired by the brand's rich history. Most notably, Comète. Drawing inspiration from Gabrielle Chanel's diamond-encrusted, shooting star necklace from her first jewellery collection, this perfume is said to capture the essence of stardust, with a hint of that powdery Chanel magic. It is a sparkling fragrance with a musky undertone, and one spritz really does feel as if you are dusting your skin with diamonds.
2. Parfums de Marly Delina

Key notes: Rhubarb, lychee, Turkish rose, vanilla, cashmere wood, musk
Perhaps a more niche fragrance brand, Parfum de Marly's scents are quite honestly a work of art. The French fragrance house is an editor's favourite, and while there are plenty of luxurious perfumes to sink your teeth into, my top choice has to be Delina. I think it can be difficult to find a super sweet scent that still smells expensive, but this manages to tick all of the boxes. It's a fruity, floral fragrance at heart, but it feels strong and heady thanks to notes of rhubarb and rose. Trust me, if you want compliments, reach for this ASAP.
3. Dior Ambre Nuit Esprit de Parfum

Key notes: Cinnamon, cardamom, amber
Of course, I had to include Dior in this roundup. While Miss Dior is probably the brand's most iconic scent, when it comes to luxury, I look to Francis Kurkdjian's concentrated iteration of Ambre Nuit from the La Collection Priveé Christian Dior Collection. This is a captivating scent centered on notes of cinnamon, cardamom and amber. It's warm, enveloping and utterly divine, and also happens to be perfect for this time of year.
4. Penhaligon's Halfeti

Key notes: Oud, bergamot, rose
Founded in the 1800s with a strong link to the royals, Penhaligon's is a British fragrance house steeped in history. The scents are not for the faint-hearted, but if you like to make an impression, Halfeti will be right up your street. It's one of the brand's bestselling perfumes, and although it is an oud fragrance at heart, notes of bergamot and rose breathe new life into the scent. It's rich, spicy and totally addictive.
5. Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait de Parfum

Key notes: Jasmine, saffron, almond, cedarwood, musk, ambergris
Baccarat Rouge 540 needs no introduction. This perfume pretty much took over the world thanks to its expensive-smelling aroma. While the original is a firm favourite in my collection, the Extrait de Parfum feels even more luxurious. Why, I hear you ask? The higher concentration amplifies the scent, allowing it to linger on the skin even longer, while still staying true to the warm, sweet, sensual fragrance that we all know and love.
6. Maison Crivelli Hibiscus Mahajád

Key notes: Spearmint, cinnamon, rose, hibiscus, leather, vanilla, ambrette, musk
Speaking of amplified scents, niche French fragrance house Maison Crivelli is an insider favourite for extrait perfumes. While every scent offers a luxurious olfactory experience, it's Hibiscus Mahajád that steals the show. "To me, this scent is like the most expensive of rubies bottled," says beauty editor Eleanor Vousden. "It's a fruity rose with velvety petals, crushed pomegranate seeds and a zing of sparkling mint that melts into a warm, sensual and intoxicating vanilla base. It has impressive silage and lasting power, and is guaranteed to get you noticed."
7. Tom Ford Black Orchid

Key notes: Truffle, bergamot, black orchid, plum, patchouli
Possibly one of the best Tom Ford perfumes of all time, Black Orchid oozes a luxurious appeal that can sometimes be hard to put your finger on. Perhaps it's the sleek black bottle with gold detailing, perhaps it's the fact that the scent is inspired by one of the rarest of flowers, or perhaps it's the way that the perfume wraps you up in this warm, sultry, floral aroma, but either way, once you add this to your collection, there's no going back.
8. Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille

Key notes: Pink pepper, bergamot, frankincense, rose, jasmine, ylang ylang, vanilla, benzoin, rum, cedarwood
If you didn't know, Guerlain has an exclusive range of fragrances, known as L'Art La Matière, crafted by the brand's master perfumers and showcasing only the finest of materials. I have a thing for expensive vanilla scents, so my favourite has to be Spiritueuse Double Vanille. Yes, it has hints of creamy sweetness thanks to notes of vanilla, but it's the rum, cedarwood, rose and jasmine that take this scent to new heights.
9. Acne Studios par Frédéric Malle

Key notes: Rose, violet, sandalwood, vanilla, peach, musk, aldehydes
I wouldn't usually describe a clean, powdery, fresh-out-the-laundry scent as luxurious, but this fragrance is in a league of its own. A collaboration between Acne Studios and Frederic Malle, this fresh, powdery, aldehyde scent is soft yet bold, with a lingering aroma that somehow manages to pack a punch in the sweetest way possible. Think of the most expensive laundry detergent in the world, times it by ten, and you might be a little bit closer to bottling this fragrance.
10. Creed Oud Zarian

Key notes: Bergamot, frankincense, ginger, rose, oud, patchouli, sandalwood, myrrh, liquorice root, tonka bean
You already know that I think of Creed as the Rolls-Royce of the fragrance world, and the brand's newest scent, Oud Zarain, is a stunning addition to the range of artisan perfumes on offer. "A deep, wintery delight, Creed Oud Zarian is a scent to have on your radar this autumn/winter," says beauty director Shannon Lawlor. "Yes, it's oudy, and obviously so, but after just a few moments of being around it, you realise quite quickly that it doesn't impede on your space in the way a typical oud fragrance might. It has a fresh, zesty bite at the top, thanks to ginger and bergamot, and the animalic oud is wrapped up in a richly powdered smokiness of rose. Throw in some tonka bean and patchouli for good measure, and what you have is a scent that smells like the most expensive aroma in the world."
11. Diptyque Orphéon

Key notes: Jasmine, juniper berry, tobacco, cedarwood, tonka bean
Last, but by no means least, we have to talk about Diptyque's Orphéon. Bottling all of that French-girl charm I so desperately wish I had, this luxury fragrance includes notes of juniper berry, cedar, tonka bean and jasmine. At first, it feels crisp and fresh, but once it unfurls onto the skin, it becomes warm, powdery and heady, immediately transporting you to a Parisian bar where curls of smoke fill the air.
